Over its lifetime, the Dunhill attracted many of the world's best players to the Links eager to win the richest prize in European golf. Played in early October, the tournament was frequently played under the sapphire skies of a St Andrews autumn. It proved a fitting ending to the professionals' season and a fine addition to the history of the Links.
